Singing for a Democratic Revival

Over the last few weeks, I have been talking a lot about the need for a Democratic Revival in our state. Since the Republican takeover of state government, we have only seen North Carolina move backwards. If we are going to protect the future that we have built for the next generation, we need 2014 to be the start of a Democratic Revival!

At a recent fundraiser in Hillsborough, I was joined by several of my colleagues from the House and Senate to lead a rendition of 'This Land is Your Land.' It was a energetic event and, after being surrounded by so many progressives who are concerned with the direction we're headed, we all felt more optimistic about the future.

After the event, one of our supporters, Gayane C., sent me her own, NC-centric, version of 'This Land is Your Land' and I wanted to share it here:

This state is your state; this state is my state
From the Blue Ridge Parkway to the Outer Banks Islands
From the Pisgah Forest to the Tryon Palace

This state was made for you and me...

In downtown Raleigh, in the shadow of the steeple
Near the Gov'nors mansion, I see my people
And some are grumblin and some are wonderin
If this state is made for you and me.

But the sun starts shining as the Dems start rolling
The people are calling for a new revival
The people are chanting as the fog is lifting,
This state is made for you and me!

I might even print up a few copies so we can all sing along at our next event! And, after seeing the crowds in Raleigh for the Moral March, I am more confident than ever that 2014 will be the year for a Democratic Revival in NC!

Moral March
